Rental power brings Hanmer Springs ice rink to life

Terra Power Systems helped the iconic Hanmer Springs Alpine Winter Fest deliver a new winter attraction for the community—a seasonal ice rink—by supplying a rental generator to help power the operation.

It’s been a joint effort to bring the temporary indoor ice rink to life: Terra is supplying a 200kVA generator, while TRANE provided the specialist temperature control chiller.

Terra Cat territory rental manager for power systems, Dave Harrison, says the team jumped at the opportunity to get involved.

“This one really hit close to home,” Dave says. “I’ve spent many years visiting Hanmer Springs with my family, so helping bring this project to life was an opportunity to give something back to a place that means a lot to me.

“I was determined to make sure we met all customer requirements to the highest standard. The final result is a key new attraction for Hanmer Springs over the coming weeks, with reliable and efficient power running behind the scenes.”

With a range of gensets from 30kVA to 1100kVA, Terra Cat offers flexible, powerful solutions to meet the energy needs of projects both large and small. Terra’s service doesn’t stop at delivery — we offer 24/7 backup and support, ensuring our customers are never left in the cold.

Visit Hurunui’s marketing executive, Flora Brons, says they’re aiming for 30,000 people to converge on Hanmer’s Alpine Winter Fest over the 13 days.

“This is now the biggest winter festival in the country and it’s been an exciting journey to bring the new ice rink to life as part of the event,” she says.

“While we can’t guarantee there’ll be snow on the ground during the festival, we can now guarantee there’ll be ice and an awesome indoor activity for visitors to enjoy if it’s raining.”

A soft launch for the temporary ice rink will be held on Matariki weekend before the festival officially runs on 28 June to 12 July. The festival will also include night tree climbing, a fairy light walk, pop-up light displays through the Hanmer Springs village and much more.
